Disco Elements -EP Vol 1 - (Azuli Records) 1992
Today we're looking at a vinyl release from 92. The first of the volumes for Disco Elements.
This one has 5 tracks. Listening to the record, the production is very timeless. A classic sound on the production. Not the usual sounds that you hear in many records from 92. Its definitly more house than disco. Many of the qualities are inherented from the disco in the looped samples. This is heard in the electric basses in a walking style. Also vocal disco samples here and there. And what wouldent be a disco record if there werent any high pitched strings to complete the production. 2 of the 5 tracks really are the main songs that makes record. The rest is still great productions. But has a more typical 92 sound.
Perhaps a little way from grabbing your attention like the 2 mentioned tracks that makes the record. Those are Running and what the papers said dub. There are also soloing on the production and the sounds are often changed in the arrangement. In the Running track the song begins with a powerful soul sample and a standard house rhythm together with a conga filled percussion. The soulsamples/disco are coming and going in the arrangement and are being exchanged with a saxophone sample. Also a string section plays every here and there. A powerful house track I think. Very classical. Timeless. And yeah, I forgot the bassline. Sitting there perfectly in the mix.
The 2nd track is what the papers said dub.
Begins with a 4 /4 bassdrum, then a walking bassline then a wurlizer piano, slowly building up with a string sample and then congas. a Vocalshout samples, then a breakdown with only drums and so on and so on. This record could aswell be released today. The sound is timeless. This is probably because of the sampling in the production.
Ive been checking out The Azuli record releases on the internet before grabbing a copy to review here on my blogspot. Many of the releases has a certain sound to them. The first track wich in my opinion is the strongest is produced by Adam "day and night".
The producers are marked with symbols and what the papers said dub is produced by Tony and Lodir at Lo-Town and Adam "day and night".
A must have in the record collection in my opinion.
The track order is:
A side
Running
Keep on keeping on
Little sht of my love
B side
mysteries of the loop
what the papers said dub
This record is worth checking out. Have a look on ebay
